Punk IPA success anyone?

Post by quiff » Mon Nov 02, 2009 4:22 pm

I'm planning to have a crack at a punk IPA clone in the coming weeks.
Has anyone had any success at getting close to it? I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Lots of info about it on their website, let us know what you come up with. Ahtanum and NS aren't the easiest hops to come by at a fair price.

Whorst, I have to reluctantly agree that your boobs are indeed better than mine.
You should see my ass though

Mysterio, Brewdog appear to contradict themselves with their hop disclosure. Indeed, this very discovery prompted me to seek the more experiance opinions of my learned peers on this forum.
Oh f*@k, I seem to have slipped into Dickensian mode again. I hate it when I do that
anyway, http://www.brewdog.com/media/downloads/ ... sheets.pdf
this suggests that they don't in fact use Ahtanum nor Nelson Sauvin but Crystal and Motoeka.
Not knowing any flavour characteristics of Ahtanum, Crystal, Nelson Sauvin or Motuoka I'm a bit stuffed on deciding which one to believe and as NS is supposed to taste like wine anyway I feel an overwhelming urge to avoid them like an extreme case of genital warts.
:-k

I have the impression the hop varieties in Punk IPA have changed quite a bit over the years. Didn't it used to be Chinook?

I had a couple of pints of this out a cask in the Moorings at aberdeen docks on friday night. Its ok but seriously bitter. In fact its 3 months too early to drink bitter to my taste.

Fair point but so was their blonde and trashy on tap same pub 2 weeks before. I'm sure this is a good move financially for the company as they can roll their casks out way early and give the beer very little or no maturing time. My point is and i should have made it in the previous post that this won't be a hard IPA to clone. Plenty American hops, plenty late citrus hops,keg/bottle and the second its clear drink it! I sound as if i'm getting on my high horse, sorry that's not what i'm trying to do. :)
