I am just getting my self sorted to brew a TTL in the morning, from GW's book and having used a small amount ofTorrified wheat in my first five AG 's for head retention, wondered how it would alter the taste of TTL if i added my regular amount, as i have only just bottled my first clone from Grahams book JW Lee's bitter without the Torrified Wheat i have no idea what the head retention will be like.
So those of you who have done TTL can you advise on the effects of Torrified wheat in the recipe please ?

Re: Torrified Wheat in TTL
I add at least 250g of TW to ALL my brews and Ive not noticed any flavour change at all. You shouldnt do, its such a small % that it is there for effect only. I wouldnt worry about it.
Re: Torrified Wheat in TTL
I added 500g of flaked barley to my last TTL clone, to give extra body and aid head retention. I too was worried that wheat may have an impact on the flavour so I elected to use barley instead. Supposedly you shouldn't use flaked barley in a pale ale, and when I bottled, the beer was still a bit hazy. But after 4 weeks in the bottle it is crystal clear, and tastes good. Head retention is also good.
Moral of the story is - why not try the TW and see what happens? Even if not quite the same as TTL it won't produce a bad beer, just a bit different perhaps.

Re: Torrified Wheat in TTL
go for it.
the recipe I used came out slightly different tasting anyway, and a couple of shades darker, but what the hey, it was a cracking brew, and I'll be doing it again. will probably use TW next time too.
