How long does the pale crushed malt keep for? i keep buying the 3kg bags but i'll get the bigger bags if it keeps for a while.

quick reply DaaB, do you live on your keyboard? :)

As I'm new to AG brewing (only done 2 so far and the 2nd had to be thrown due to the dog pushing the top off and having a right good time in it!!) not sure how much i'll make.

I have a keg but i dont want to keep waiting to finish one before i start another! i'll bottle some then so at least i can store it and have a variety of brews at my whim!

Do you have any good porter recipes you can recommend?

I would disagree with 18months!! uncrushed , definitly ! but once crushed I wouldnt want to be keeping it more than a month and preferibly less, definitly keep it in a airtight container.

Plenty of people buy 25kg bags of grain and use them over a number of months (I've just bought one myself). When you buy precrushed grain from Brupaks or youngs they have a reasonably long date before they expire. I've never heard anybody say precrushed grain, kept in dry conditions, should be used within a month.

If it works for you guys great, I have certainly had stale odd tasting beer from pre crushed grain far younger than that. And I have read in several books that weeks rather than months is what you want to aim for.

I with some other home brewers imported Barley Crusher mills from the states. Highly recommended.
