Hi guys,
I'm still quite new to making up my own recipes.
I'm trying to create something along the lines of Thornbridge Kipling. What do you guys think of this recipe ?
5KG Pale Malt
30g Challenger 6.4% AA 90 min
25g Nelson Sauvin 11.3% AA 15 min
25g Nelson Sauvin 11.3% AA Flame out (steep for 20 mins or so)
US-05 yeast
OG 1049
4.8% ABV
39.2 IBUs
I'm thinking of adding a bit of Munich or Vienna malt to make it a bit more malty - and perhaps some torrefied wheat for head retention.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Nelson's Challenge
Re: Nelson's Challenge
That will make great beer. I brewed something similar, but all Nelson hops with 300g wheat, 650g munich and pale to 5% ABV with 37 EBU. Only 3 weeks old at the moment,( 10 days in the keg) but very nice beer. I would go with the recipe as you have it with some wheat and see what you think, then tweek it for future brews and note the difference.

Re: Nelson's Challenge
yeah, I'd say the recipe looks good, should be one you're going to enjoy... will probably drink young very well.
I'm just drinking one of my Bloody Nelson viewtopic.php?f=24&t=28454 which is nicely balanced and nicely hoppy
You could easily add a bit of Munich and maybe a little Caramalt or Crystal malt for body.
