Damn the expense IPA Mk 2

Post by pantsmachine » Wed Mar 24, 2010 12:58 pm

Just placed my 2nd last bottle of my Mk 1 Damn the expense IPA in the fridge to chill, i'm keeping the last bottle till its 1 year anniversary. My will power is terrible  , with this in mind i've put together a larger batch(12.5 gallon) with some changes to the original recipe which will hopefully enhance. Dropped the IBU and ABV a bit on this version. I think i'll give the WLP028 a go and see how it performs.

8.00 kg MO
2.50 kg Munich Malt
2.00 kg Wheat Malt
1.00 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L
1.00 kg Wheat, Torrified
0.10 kg Chocolate Malt
3.50 oz Glacier [7.80 %] (90 min)
2.50 oz First Gold [8.30 %] (60 min)
1.00 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] (30 min)
1.00 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] (10 min)

1.50 oz Styrian Goldings [5.40 %] (5 min)
2.00 oz Styrian Goldings [5.40 %] (0 min)
1.00 oz Bramling Cross [6.00 %] (0 min)

Sounds amazing, did you oak the last one? Bringing any bottles of this to the Gallery?

I'll be bringing some of my hop bomb IPA for the night itself but only a few and they are for JBK guys who show up. General punters no chance! It was oak chipped which was apparent during the early 'testing stages'. Its all blending nicely. Went out last Friday and me and a mate finished my last 2 bottles of commercial beer(Stella)

We then split a bottle of the hop bomb IPA, quite frankly it pissed all over the Stella(his words not mine)! Its still very American IPA levels of bitterness/ youth but its still nice!

Looking forward to a night out in the city of my birth tomorrow! Eric must be up in the air somewhere over the pond at the moment.

I'm thinking 33 Vienna lagers, 33 Rauchbiers & 33 hefes. No hop bombs, infact most of these have barely a suggestion of hops!

TBH i'm rubbish at brewing hoppy beers. I'll leave that to you guys. Looking forward to trying them.

My NS IIPA might not be as hoppy as I would like to be honest. Damn it. The Bravo! Simcoe beer I am bringing is pretty good, was bottled ages ago.

The English and Belgian Pale Ales should be pretty good.

Looking forward to those Hefes.
