Just brewed this tonight.
3800gm Maris Otter
Chinook 12.7 AA 57gms 70 mins
Chinook 15 gms 15 mins
Chinook 15 gms 5 mins
Chinook 20gms, steep @ 80C
25.5ltrs in fermenter at O.G. 1.036, this is IBU'd upto about 90.
Cooled wort was dumped onto US05 sludge from last Nelson Sauvin brew and before that it was used in First Gold & Cascade brew, 1 hr on from pitching and the airlock is bubbling (as when pitched with Nelson, but took 16hrs with First Gold (when it came out of sachet)). Had to chuck a pint of sludge as it was twice as thick since last re-cycling, shame to waste it really. Think it would have froffed the kitchen out with all that yeast.
Chinook Pale Ale - us05 yeast doing its 3rd shift
Re: Chinook Pale Ale - us05 yeast doing its 3rd shift
This sounds great, although with such a big beer I would have booster the OG up to around the 1060-65 mark
Re: Chinook Pale Ale - us05 yeast doing its 3rd shift
It'll be reet (hopefully!). Yes, know what you're saying regarding a higher OG to balance it, just didn't want a high ABV. The Nelson has come out at 6%! Like beer with a bite to it so hopefully this one will be there, will have a sample in a weeks time.
Bubbling like mad this morning, and to think I used to use a fresh pack of yeast for each brew.

That should be an interesting beer. You'll probably also get some extra added Nelson flavour from the slurry too.....

I'm getting the feeling it will taste like no other, adm wrote:That should be an interesting beer. You'll probably also get some extra added Nelson flavour from the slurry too.....

I'm off to pick them up later this afternoon. I won't be there much before 5pm, so it'll probably be tomorrow by the time I get to take some pics and get a proper evaluation done. I'm hopeful though - they look great and might be a steal at the price. A 100L stainless keg is £95 plus VAT, plus shipping, then you've got to add burners, taps, etc....ajh800 wrote:I'm getting the feeling it will taste like no other, adm wrote:That should be an interesting beer. These things are natural gas fired - so if you have gas at home (I don't), then they should be ideal. I'm hoping the burners are from some still alive commercial firm that I can get replacement propane jets from.....but I think that's going to be a long shot!
