Bank Holiday Recipe required

Post by Chris Tel » Sat May 01, 2010 6:41 am

Hi All,
Now on AG3 having already made a cracking Summer Lightning and Bathams!
Really like my hoppy beers and was wondering as an AG3 which I should go for next.
Hop wise have styrians, EKG, fuggles, challenger and cascade. Only have MO malt.

I was thinking of making 'styrian stunner' as I gather this is comparable to Deuchars which I love.
That said if anyone has any advice on something pale, hoppy and full of flavour please tell!

Thanks in advance!!

Chris in my search for a summer lemony taste brew i did a challenger and cascade mix, bittered with the challenger then a big hit of cascade late on, I am drinking it at the moment and it is without doubt the best i have made so far.
My Bank holiday brew is more or less a repeat but adding 50g of lemon and lime zest 15 mins with 10g of cascade at flame out just to up the lemony taste a tad (hopefully this will be my world cup ale)

Thanks Paul, you've inspired me!
I'm glad you reminded me of the World Cup, I'd better get an extra large brew on....
Cheers
Chris

Paul,
As I posted the last message I noticed that you have made styrian stunner several times? Any tips of what works best if I decide to make this in the future.

Chris i have made the stunner twice the first i thought was very nice but Kay Jay tried it and thought it quite sweet so i made a second batch and dropped the mash temp 3 or 4 degrees to see if i could remove a little sweetness that has still to be seen as its not ready for a couple of weeks.
A lot depends on your personal choice you have the hops for a cascade / challenger and whilst thats conditioning you could get a stunner on both ready for the footie :)
As soon as the second batch of stunner is ready i will be posting the result here however i suspect Kay Jay will beat me to it as i will be away on holiday and i have promised him a sample to compare should be ready to drink part way through my hols :(

Hi John the lemony ale was a cracker but when i do it again i will be adding even more zest and possibly a few quarters of lemons to the fermenter after main ferment has calmed a bit just to get a bigger lemon hit
