Getting fuggled
Getting fuggled
I've got a load of Fuggles that need using up. Any suggestions for a recipe? Some sort of single hop IPA maybe?
Re: Getting fuggled
There are plenty of Fuggles single hop IPAs in the Durden Park book "Old British Beers and How to Make Them".
Otherwise, how about Graham's Moorehouses "Pendle Witches Brew" - a superb beer.
I did a variation back in February: 50L
Fuggles 120gms 90 mins
Fuggles 40 gms 10 mins
Fuggles 40 gms flameout
Did it in October and November last year as well, damn stuff evaporates.....
This is one of those recipes where the little bit of sugar works well and definately does not taste in the end product.

Re: Getting fuggled
Got any malt available or are you buying? How much fuggles you got?
Re: Getting fuggled
I've got about 75g of fuggles, about 400g crystal malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley but only a kg or two of MO, so unless it's a very odd recipe I'm going to have to get some more malt anyway. I want to use the fuggles up because they will have been in the fridge for 2 months by the time I get to do the next brew.
Re: Getting fuggled
Is it this one? I did stumble across it but was put off because the recipe didn't have quantities. What malts did you use?befuggled wrote: Otherwise, how about Graham's Moorehouses "Pendle Witches Brew" - a superb beer.

Just for the record, recipes aren't covered by copyright so there's no infringement involved in reproducing them.
Re: Getting fuggled
It's nothing to do with copyright Naich, it is out of respect for Graham!
If you have not got his book, you are missing out on a wealth of information....
My malts etc were approx:
79% PM
7% Crystal
9% Sugar
5% Wheat
24 EBU from the bittering, 3 EBU from the 10 minute addition, make the steep hops the same as the 10 minute.
Shove it into Beer Engine or similar to suit your intended volume.
Or, without software, and with your 75 gms, go 62 for bittering and 13 for flameout.
400gms Crystal will be fine, but you will need a bit over 4kg of PM.
Using all of what you have got is sounding more like a stout, with fuggles for bittering!

That's absolutely fine, but the other poster said he was not reproducing the recipe because of copyright reasons and I was being a pedantic twonkbefuggled wrote:It's nothing to do with copyright Naich, it is out of respect for Graham!

It's on order from Amazon as I write this. I've been meaning to get it for a while now. Thanks for the info.If you have not got his book, you are missing out on a wealth of information....
Re: Getting fuggled
Actually, Graham said he didn't mind people posting the recipes but I think he might just be being polite:Naich wrote:That's absolutely fine, but the other poster said he was not reproducing the recipe because of copyright reasons and I was being a pedantic twonkbefuggled wrote:It's nothing to do with copyright Naich, it is out of respect for Graham!

(either that or he is just "accepting that which he cannot change")
Re: Getting fuggled
I just realised I posted this in the wrong forum. It should have been in Recipes. Sorry about that.
Re: Getting fuggled
Hi Naich. How about doing a mild? Fuggles are ideal for that. Just the thing for hot weather, too. Check out some of the recipes in Graham's book when it comes.
Re: Getting fuggled
I'm sure that Graham wouldn't mind the recipe being posted up here but I'm also sure that many will agree that the wealth of information that the book provides (particularly the recipes) makes it an absolute must buy for any AG brewer. If our lack of posting up recipes from that book persuades one person to buy it then it's worthwhile as that person will then discover a mass of fantastic recipes.

Re: Getting fuggled
Naich, I think it is only right that you get on a brew one of the suggestions, then this post will be in the right place.

No problem, I have moved it into recipes for you.Naich wrote:I just realised I posted this in the wrong forum. It should have been in Recipes. Sorry about that.
Re: Getting fuggled
Graham's book arrived this morning and is now installed in the toilet for leisurely perusal
(How to Brew is my current bed time reading). Some nice looking recipes in there. The Witch's Brew was the obvious choice, but now floydmeddler's brew looks intriguing, if a little scary with that much crystal in it. Then there is the 6X from Graham's book, which I used to love but haven't had for years now. Thanks for making the decision even harder guys
