First Gold
Just got 100g or so of First Gold from a local micro who tell me that they are the bittering hops in one of thier better brews but they wont tell me what the aroma hops are or what IBU they work to, so i was wondering if anyone has used these for bittering and could recommend later addition hops that go well with first gold ??

Re: First Gold
FG work great as late hops too! You can do a single hop FG brew. It has a slightly orangey citrus taste.
I have mixed them with Bobek and with Amarillo. Both are great with it.

Re: First Gold
Adnams Broadside uses nothing but First Gold. The bottled version has them both for bittering and late addition. The draught version doesn't use any late hops. The grists are different too.
Re: First Gold
Badger First Gold is also a single hop brew that uses this hop. I've got a bottle waiting for me to taste as a result of the recent "single hop ales" thread on here!
Re: First Gold
First Gold are probably my favourite english hop. Work well on their own or in conjunction with just about anything.
Can be used at all stages of the process...

Re: First Gold
My FG single hop brew ended up with almost no aroma, so defintly put a good bunch in at flame out (can't go wrong with EKG). I would also recommend stagaring thier addition through the boil time so you get dual purpose from the FG
Happy brewing
