Having successfully brewed the brewpaks london bitter (my first AG brew) I have decided to try my hand at creating my own recipe. Using some software I came up with the following:
For a 23 litre batch:
4.4 kg Pale Malt
300g Amber Malt
300g Crystal Malt
100g Black Malt
90 minute boil with 50g Fuggles
10 minute boil with 50g Fuggles
Safale S-04 Dry Yeast
According to the software I should be getting just over 30 EBU at around 4.8% (OG 1.049, FG 1.013)
Would someone be able to cast an experienced eye over this combination and tell me if there is anything unpleasant or any reason why it won't work?
Thanks

Re: Recipe advice
Using Grahams Beer Engine I get the EBU to 55, 100g of hops will make your brew quite bitter, personally I would reduce the amount of hops it will also be quite dark about 68 EBC, give it a go though it will be ok

Re: Recipe advice
But i'm only boiling with 50g of hops for the full 90 minutes - the other 50g goes in for 10 minutes at the end and adds little bitterness. Plus Fuggles is low AA isn't it?

Re: Recipe advice
I like fuggles, but as Pooky says 100g is a lot and with all that black malt it will be very dark. If you havent already downloaded it download beer engine it is fantastic.
With the grain bill you have i would be looking at an EBU of mid to high thirties this will give the fuggles chance to shine over the bitterness

Re: Recipe advice
Downloaded beer engine - is very useful as you say. I do however get a much lower EBU than 55... (more like 35)
Re: Recipe advice
Fuggles is very low AA. I wouldn't be surprised if 35 was about right for that schedule.
Maybe go for something a bit more standard for your first one though? Up to you though - it's your beer!
