Seeing as I have a rather large bag of Amarillo hops, this is loosely based around the 1868 IPA by Ansinck from the Durden Park book with a little boost to the ABV from some sugar.
Any thoughts?

Not familiar with the Durden Park recipes but looking at that I would sub out some of the munich for some of the sugar - I think what you have might be a little cloying.
Also 400 grams of hops in a 23 litre batch? Surely that's not right.

Now that's a serious beer
Totally mad, but serious

Matt, an original 1868 India Pale Ale would have been hopped with over 400g /23L with the 70g just as dry hops, though the hops would have been lower Alpha and English rather than fairly high and American.
I've done an all Munich which was 5.4% not cloying at all as it was very bitter too

I might Just drop the sugar and leave it at 6.6%.

If it's half as good as your Munich 5000 mate it'll be a blinder!

This, if I brew it, will be one to leave well alone for 6 months to a year

I would do.
100g 60mins
150g 15 mins
150g Flame Out
70g dry hop
The IBUs would still be well over 100 close to 150, which is the taste threshold and the hop flavour and aroma will be on a totally different level (insanly insanly better) than the one with all the hops at the start.

I suppose so, i'll use the first gold for a more strict imperial.

I've actually got 530g of Amarillo so it would be silly not to use them all

Added 5% Lager malt as I don't think the Munich malt will be that efficient and 5% caramalt for 'Balance'
Code: Select all
Imperial Amarillo Wheat
Fermentable Colour lb: oz Grams Ratio
Wheat Malt 3.5 EBC 6 lbs. 10.0 oz 3010 grams 45%
Munich Malt 20 EBC 6 lbs. 10.0 oz 3010 grams 45%
Lager Malt 2.5 EBC 0 lbs. 11.7 oz 330 grams 5%
Caramalt 20 EBC 0 lbs. 11.7 oz 330 grams 5%
Hop Variety Type Alpha Time lb: oz grams Ratio
Amarillo Whole 9.4 % 75 mins 0 lbs. 8.8 oz 250 grams 47.2%
Amarillo Whole 9.4 % 15 mins 0 lbs. 3.9 oz 110 grams 20.8%
Amarillo Whole 9.4 % 0 mins 0 lbs. 3.5 oz 100 grams 18.9%
Amarillo Whole 9.4 % 0 mins 0 lbs. 2.5 oz 70 grams 13.2% (DRY HOPS)
Final Volume: 23 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.065
Final Gravity: 1.015
Alcohol Content: 6.6% ABV
Total Liquor: 37 Litres
Mash Liquor: 16.7 Litres
Mash Efficiency: 75 %
Bitterness: 261 EBU
Colour: 26 EBC
I think with the Hopping more like 196osh's comment this beer might be drinking sooner

That beer will be just superb. I propose a swap if you manage to brew it. Looks superb. Mysty will be loving that Amarillo.

That sounds like a challenge! 90min Mash @ 65-66c, maybe 75min boil rather than my usual 60min, Yeast will be US-05
