Had a bottle of Dogfish Head 90 min IPA the other day, interesting, inspired me to have a think about something similarish....
It's going to need dry hopping, I do have another 100g bag of Centennial.....

Centurian IPA, 100g of hops, 100IBUs, 100 minute boil
Re: Centurian IPA, 100g of hops, 100IBUs, 100 minute boil
What's the thinking behind 17 seperate hop additions between 100m and 20m?
Re: Centurian IPA, 100g of hops, 100IBUs, 100 minute boil
It's based on what Dogfish Head do, they continually hop their 60,90 and 120 IPAs during the boil (the numbers relate the length of the boil and the IBUs). I thought it might be fun to do a variation and playing around with a recipe it sort of fell together around the number 100 and Centennial Hops.
Dogfish say this about their 90 min beer:
Dogfish say this about their 90 min beer:
90 Minute IPA was our first continually-hopped beer, which is a method of hopping that allows for a pungent, but not crushing hop flavor. Since introducing the world to the continual-hopping method with our 90 Minute IPA, we've since released a continually-hopped 60 Minute IPA, 120 Minute IPA and even a 75 Minute IPA (a cask-conditioned blend of 60 & 90 Minute IPAs).
Re: Centurian IPA, 100g of hops, 100IBUs, 100 minute boil
Does continuous hopping make a difference or is it just a gimmick?
Re: Centurian IPA, 100g of hops, 100IBUs, 100 minute boil
I certainly thought the DFH 90 min IPA was good, extremely hoppy but nice mixture of bitterness and hop flavours. I had my first bottle of Jaipur yesterday and, while I liked it, the hop flavours reminded me of my own very hoppy brews before they have started fermenting, a sort of raw hoppiness which presumably comes from chucking in a sackfull of hops at the very end, I think I prefer the sort of end to end hoppiness that the Dogfish beer had.
But yeah it's almost certainly a gimmick, probably could get much the same result with a 100, 80, 60, 40, 20 0 or even less frequent hop schedule, I guess the only thing to do is brew it and see if it tastes any good!
