I'm guessing that you want a recipe which has your home grown hops as a significant feature of your brew and, since you won't know their alpha acid content this means hops added at/near the end of the boil. A search of my database indicates that most brewers tend to use Progress mixed with other varieties and it is usually used on its own in recipes for Milds, porters or stouts. However, a good option may be a recipe based on that for Hobsons Best Bitter. A quick run through BeerSmith gives this recipe for 5 gallons:

OG: 1038
4lb Light malt extract
5.5oz Crystal malt
1.25oz Challenger hops (start of boil)
0.5oz Progress hops (at end of boil).
0.5oz Progress hops (dry hopped) - optional.

Depending how dry your hops are and/or how brave you are feeling you may want to increase your late hop quantity. I've previously added 4oz of fresh green hops at the end of the boil and I was very happy with the results. I have no experience of dry hopping with fresh hops and I suspect that they may be a source of infection unless they've been dried, so I've put this addition as optional.

I hope that this helps.

Cheers,

Les

I also think that progress hops by themselves would be good in a darker beer, although I do use it blended with five other hops in my Number 6 Hopping Street British IPA.
I'm just here for the beer.
