Hey all,

Now im probably missing something but the recipe in my copy of Brew your own real british ale (3rd .Ed) states that the ABV is 4 something, however on a bottle I've got it should be 6.3%.

Is the bottle i've got a stronger version or is the recipe wrong?

It is stronger, often bottle beers are stronger than their draught counterparts... take a loot (edit: loot??? look!) at http://adnams.co.uk/beer/the-beers/adna ... e-no-other

Cheers!

Yes Broadside is 6.3% in bottles but 4.7% on draught. Not sure why but it just is.

From memory it's 4.7 from the cask. The bottled version is a different recipe with more malt and different hops. I have had 9 attempts at brewing the cask version using the recipe given to me by the head brewer (he was the assistant brewer at the time). If you don't have the correct yeast fermented at the right temp, there's no chance of brewing anything similar. I gave up in the end, but i did make some great beers whilst trying! The best was using Wyeast Ringwood Ale yeast fermented at 22C. The closest yeast was a Brewlabs, but i can't remember which one...........I think no. 48. If you're interested, i will dig out the brewsheet when i am at home.

EDIT: 3 replies with the right info whilst typing!

Sorry to dig up this old post, but keen to have a go at an Adnams recipe as I have starter on the go made with yeast from mini-cask of Southwold Bitter.

Jubby - Would you be willing to list the recipe you used? [-o<

I'm sure jubby won't mind me stepping in here.

steve_flack has the actual recipe straight from Fergus at Adnams. Take a look at this thread for the recipe of the cask version.

I keep meaning to try this again myself, so do let us know how it goes.
