Hi Guys!
I am contemplating AG#3 and would really like to try a clone of Hop Back's Crop Circle which has been going down a treat during this warm spell.
Searching the forum has come up with two recipes:
1. Grist: 70-75% Pale Malt, 20-25% Flaked Maize, 5% Wheat Malt
Bittering Hops: Pioneer, Goldings
Flavour/Aroma Hops: Pioneer, Tettnang (with Coriander added) - No quants or schedule for the hops but I am not against experimenting.
Or
2. Fermentable Colour lb: oz Grams Ratio
Pale Malt 5 EBC 8 lbs. 7.3 oz 3840 grams 87%
Wheat Malt 3.5 EBC 0 lbs. 4.6 oz 130 grams 3%
Flaked Maize 0 EBC 0 lbs. 15.5 oz 440 grams 10%
Hop Variety Type Alpha Time lb: oz grams Ratio
Challenger Whole 7.6 % 90 mins 0 lbs. 0.8 oz 23 grams 50%
Whitbread Golding Whole 6.4 % 90 mins 0 lbs. 0.8 oz 23 grams 50%
Does anyone have any thoughts on the above or a recipe that has worked to get close to a clone of this?
Also any thoughts on the coriander that is mentioned? - Are we talking seeds or leaf here?
Jim

Re: Hop Back Crop Circle Clone
Just had a bottle of Crop Circle and the good people at Hop Back are kind enough to list the ingredients as:
"Barley and Wheat Malts, Maize, Hops: Pioneer, EKG, Spalter and Saaz, Coriander and Hop Back Yeast".
I will have to do a bit of experimentation I think......

Re: Hop Back Crop Circle Clone
I sent Hop Back a message on their website about another beer and they gave me the exact ingredients and percentages. They were really helpful.
Incidentally, the recipe was for their wheat beer which also calls for coriander. The instructions i got were for crushed coriander seeds at flame out. I put it in muslin as it's pretty fine.
It's a darza of a recipe. They really put to shame breweries who keep shtum about their products. I even arranged with them to get 96 bottles of summer lightening to Gran Canaria for my wedding. I can't praise them enough!
Hope this helps.

I'm looking at having a go at this recipe... using the recipe formulation 1 suggested by Jim
Has anybody any suggestions on Mash Temps and Hop Quantities and Timings?

3.
I like the hopping from 1 and the grist from 2.
I would mash @65-66 for 60mins.
Corriander seeds, in last 15 of boil.
Opinion only, never tried it. But it is very similar to a lots of brews I do.
