Came across Shotover Prospect a couple of weeks ago. What a good beer ! Lovely deep malty beer and only 4%. Low gravity is what appeals to me. I like to drink for the joy of drinking and not necessarily to get drunk.
I've been experimenting with single and double decoction mashing and I an now getting quite good at generating full malty flavours on a resticted grain bill. i.e. I can make a good tasty full bodied beer without it being so strong it blows my socks off.
I digress. A really good beer is one where the malt and hops are perfectly balanced.
Can anybody give me advice on hop selection for this beer? Or better still pointers on a complete recipie. It says a blend of European and New World hops! I've always got Target, Chalanger, Goldings, Northdown in the freezer, what else do I need?
As a side issue I have found that a hop bomb in the cornie is the only way of preventing that gradual loss of hop flavour. And I conclude that there is a big difference in the hoppiness (tangy grassy notes) of a freashly opened pack of hops and one a couple of months old.
Shotover prospect - Which Hops ?
Re: Shotover prospect - Which Hops ?
Ed uses a lot of Nelson Sauvin. I'd venture a guess that it's featured in Prospect.
