Growling Leftovers brew

Post by GrowlingDogBeer » Wed Aug 24, 2011 3:48 pm

Planning a use it up brew this weekend.

I have been brewing a lot of IPA style beers of late, and I could do with something a little darker and Maltier for the Autumn months, maybe not the hop bombs I've been brewing of late either.
I have settled on this recipe, the grain bill has been dictated by the leftovers I want to get used up.

Growling Leftovers
----------------
Batch Size (L): 45.0
Original Gravity (OG): 1.043 (°P): 10.7
Final Gravity (FG): 1.011 (°P): 2.8
Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 4.22 %
Colour (SRM): 16.7 (EBC): 32.9
Bitterness (IBU): 37.6 (Average)
Brewhouse Efficiency (%): 75
Boil Time (Minutes): 60

Grain Bill
4.000 kg Maris Otter Malt (47.34%)
1.000 kg Amber Malt (11.83%)
1.000 kg Brown Malt (11.83%)
1.000 kg Mild Ale Malt (11.83%)
0.500 kg Carahell (5.92%)
0.500 kg Caramunich I (5.92%)
0.250 kg Caramalt (2.96%)
0.100 kg Crystal 300 (1.18%)
0.100 kg Crystal 340 (1.18%)

Hop Bill
50.0 g East Kent Golding Leaf (5.2% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil) (1.1 g/L)
50.0 g Fuggles Leaf (5.4% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil) (1.1 g/L)
50.0 g East Kent Golding Leaf (5.2% Alpha) @ 5 Minutes (Boil) (1.1 g/L)
50.0 g Fuggles Leaf (5.4% Alpha) @ 5 Minutes (Boil) (1.1 g/L)
34.0 g East Kent Golding Leaf (5.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma) (0.8 g/L)

Hopefully I should just about have the balance right betwwen the malt on the hops to produce a nice session ale.

Nice one Steve - reminds me of my leftover stout I did earlier this year. Not quite as much stuff as you. Mine was one of my best.

Sometimes it can be surprising - good luck!!!
