Rakau Recipe

Post by jimp2003 » Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:28 pm

Hi Guys.

I am trying to plan some future brews around the hops I have in the freezer and am a bit stumped for a recipe to use up some of the 200g of rakau that are in there. Has anyone got tried and tested recipe using this hop that they would care to share?

Cheers

jim

Last time I was wondering what to do with NZ hops I found the The New Zealand Hop table on this site quite useful. It doesn't have anything about Rakau, but since I'd looked out the link I thought I might as well share.

i do a very nice beer with rakau theyre a cracking hop

basicly for 10gallons @og 1049 racking grav 1010 fg1008
90% pale
7% cara
3% wheat
mash at 65.c for 60
boil for 60
14g riwaka(6.1%)@60
14g rakau(12.1%)@20 with some protofloc
28g rakau@10
98.5g rakau@0
steep for thirty mins then crash to 20.c
yeast so-4

its bloody tasty :D

if you cant get riwaka sub with some cascade or saaz after adjusting for ibu. acording to reciprocator this is 15 ibus, tastes a bit more with the adjustment for steep probably mid 20's..... lots of hop flavour

Nice one critch! Looks like a winner. :D

Just a quick question on the cara you mention - is that just caramalt like this one?

Also could I used torrified wheat instead of wheat malt or would I lose something in translation?

Cheers
