Favourite IPA

I am planning on doing an IPA in the next week, I know there are variations on this, so it would be good to get some recipes that you guys have found that are really quite good! My last one tasted not bad, but I think I added a little too much hops!

What type of IPA are you wanting? Do you want a traditional English IPA or an American or another.....?

For an English IPA, to be honest It's such a broad spectrum it's hard to answer.

I suppose the best common commercial version would be Marstons Old Empire, but I'm not sure if thats what your after.

For a more session beer something like Deuchars IPA would do, OK I know it's Scottish, but it's close enough.

For that you want to aim for a Gravity of about 1038 and an IBU of 34. Adjust the quantities to suit dependant on your efficiency and the AA of your hops.

Grist

90% Pale Malt
6.5% Crystal Malt
3.5% Wheat Malt

Hops

3 g/L Fuggles for 60 mins
1g/L Styrian Goldings 10 mins

The best IPA/APAs I've personally made are variations around Steve Flack's recipe (here) - though so far I've only done it with US-05 (I need to get my act together and try a liquid starter, really). Its gone down well with friends who like that sort of thing, and obviously it did well in the CBA nationals.

Cheers
