Post by alfie09 » Wed Oct 19, 2011 7:35 pm

hello. i want to make a fairly strong ipa but not sure on hops yet. its either going to be a shed loads of east kent goldings or nelson sauvin. i know 2 completely different hops but oh well. sticking to the grain bill unless you lot see anything totally wrong with it.

Caragold 9 EBC 0 lbs. 8.8 oz 250 grams 4.1%
Wheat Malt 3.5 EBC 0 lbs. 3.5 oz 100 grams 1.7%

Looks good to me, not that I've used Caragold. With a near 6% ABV you're going to want a high IBU, 60+ I'd suggest. (How come your bitterness comes out at 0 EBU?) Plenty of late hopping, and you'll want to dry hop too.

That will be the lack of hops in the recipe ;)

yes going to go for about 60-65 ebus on this one. i was suppose to be brewing tonight but SWMBO as said she doesnt want the house smelling of hops and that when the family come around tommorow morning. so waiting for another free day now. so was wondering i have had this idea floating around in my head all day. what about using nelson sauvin and galaxy hops toghther ? 100 grams of each. say so much FWH and some to bitter the ipa the 60-65 ebus. then a mixture of the rest at the end of the boil and late hopping @ 85oc. what do you lot think of the hop combo?
