in norms recipe for ridleys ipa it calls for invert suger but doesnt say which one the rumpus recipe states no3 invert as ipa was a lighter colour I asume it is no1 ie golden syrup
can sone one who has brewed it confirm this(dennis king?)

unfortunately I dont have access to wlp22 yeast so will have to make do with safeale-04

Never brewed this or seen the recipe so can't help you with that, but golden syrup should be fine. On the otherhand I have used WLP022 many times and it's a great yeast, full of fruity flavour with a nice dry finish. Its great for top cropping too so easy to reuse. WLP022 Essex Ale yeast is purported to be the original Ridleys strain. Its part of the White Labs platinum range and is only available for a limited time each year so grab it now while you can!

Fair cop guv. it was me. have brewed both and used golden syrup in both and they turn out very good.
Never used dry yeast but as naffoldog says WLP022 is Ridleys, I've also used an Essex strain from Brewlabs all good, If you are in the Essex area Wibblers and Crouch Vale use the ols Ridleys strain.

unfortunately although originally from near colchester and a lover of ridleys, tolly and adnams beers I now live in corfu greece and am a bit unshure of the ease of getting wet yeast sent here what with the delay in the postal systems (anything 10-20 days for a small parcel) and possible temperature problems in transit .the only wet yeast available here is wlp002 fulllers and wlp004 irish and german or belgian strains.
maybe the greek importer of white labs could order it to special order
I may try and get some yeast brought over in the summer by a friend when they fly out ,thats if it will pass through custom controls in hold luggage ,I know it wont go through hand luggage.
I wonder if ollie is still at crouch vale?

According to my notes I used WLP002 for both those recipes in the past and they both turned got an 8/10 on my own taste scale.

thanks dennis wlp002 is available to me from athens via post 2-3 days so whilst not no1 choice I will give it a go with that to start with.
I also want to try the mild recipe but need to find out how much & what hops to dry hop with

dennis just to update you ,having finally got round to brewing ipa 2 weeks ago today I transferred my ridleys ipa brew from fermenter to pressure barrel I tried the beer for the first time and although it is young and uncarbonated at this stage it does taste remarkably like how I remember ridleys to be
We will see how it progresses from here in about a months time
I agree with you 8 out of 10 rating
