Single Hop (Citra) Blonde

Post by Skittlebrau » Tue Apr 10, 2012 11:25 am

Wanting a nice easy drinking session ale for the summer. How about this? It's a bit of a user-upper, hence the weird amounts of torrified wheat, munich and pilsner. Anyone see any glaring problems? Using S-04 because I've got some and haven't used it yet and want to try it out.

Looks good! I tried Oakhams single hopped Citra at the weekend and it was a nice easy drinking hop bomb. The only problem was it killed my taste buds and I couldn't taste anything else afterwards so had to stick to it all night. Not a bad thing though! =P~

Personally I'd save the S-04 and go with US-05. I've not really liked S-04 in any pale, hoppy beers I've brewed.
In or near Norwich? Interested in meeting up monthly to talk and drink beer? PM me for details.

Someone said that in another thread I pisted. I'm keen to try it for myself though, unless you think it'll be undrinkable...

I had a bottle of this brew on Saturday night as my first drink, and as you say, nothing came close after that.

It's a lovely hop though :)

us05 will give a clean crisp taste that lets the hops shine through. S04 will produce a more than passable ale though. If that's what you've got then give it a go.

Think I'm convinced to use US-05 for this now. Will mash at 68 C to combat the ludicrously high attenuation.

I tried the Styrian Stunner recipe but switched most of the hops to Citra and the end product is superb. Needs another name though!!

Ive just ordered some Munich and torrified so hope to have this brewed up next week! How did the citra come through? I love the grapefruit citrus flavours in oakham, hopefully I can replicate them.

I do this for 25ltrs use 80gms Citra at 60/90mins and 20gms 15mins or at knockout for a 4.5% with some wheat malt and S05 and it tastes 'most excellent'.

Looking around google, this is one of the very few that come up, so I thought I'd try it and see how it comes out!
