Hello,
Was trying to buy some torrified wheat for head retention but my normal supplier has sold out. I still have some wheat malt left, however; is this in anyway similar to torrified wheat and can it be used for head retention?
assistance much appreciated...

Torrified Wheat vs Wheat Malt
Re: Torrified Wheat vs Wheat Malt
I have used them both for that purpose. I now keep wheat malt rather than torrified as it is a more versatile ingredient.

Re: Torrified Wheat vs Wheat Malt
I don't tend to use Torry as much these days. I swing between wheat malt and flaked wheat depending on my recipe. But, yes, they are interchangeable.
I buy from The Malt Miller

Re: Torrified Wheat vs Wheat Malt
Torrified is interchangable but is used to give blonde beers a bit more body as the lager malt or pale malt on its on can leave the beer
without too much mouth feel, i know a few breweries that use it just to boost the body and also for head retention in their blondes,
Moorhouses Blonde Witch being one example.

Ive changed to wheat malt, it seems to give more to a brew than torry

no palate, no patience.
Drinking - of course
