Into the unknown
Hi All, I would like some advice regarding the use of these hops; Chinook, simcoe, columbus. I want to create a hoppy apa. and thought add some of each throughout stages of the boil. I have pale malt, crystal, caramalt, wheat malt ( plus others too dark to mention) cheers

I've got this conditioning in kegs now. Had a sly sample as I was kegging and I must say it's showing a lot of promise. It's the first time I've used that many hops but I'm glad I did. If you've not got any Cascade ( why not? ) then you could get away with Columbus
Cheers Tom

I know I mentioned Jaipur in that thread but thinking on Sierra Nevada Pale Ale might be closer. I've only ever had it the once but it was a tasty brew. Whatever it tastes like, it tasted familiar when I had that sample out of the fermenter

Re: Into the unknown
I'd drop the 60 min Columbus and up the late hops a bit.
Say an extra 10g of each at the 10 min and another 10 as your 0 min addition
Should still come out at 53 ebu but you'll get a bigger flavour hit from the hops
Cheers Tom

Re: Into the unknown
They're fine, it's just that if you up the late additions with the other hops and kept the Columbus you'd end up closer to 70 ebu. My personal preference is for a big wadge of flavour from my hops, ballanced with the right amount of bittering.
You could go with your original recipe and it'll be fine but if I was doing it, I'd add more late hops for flavour and lower the copper hops to ballance to extra bittering I'd get from the late ones. Just my personal taste, might not be yours though.....
