What to do with Nelson Sauvin

Post by JonoT » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:12 pm

Hi,

Just been given an open bag of Nelson Sauvin, I think about 200g. As its open I need to use it quickly so was going to brew a beer on Saturday, but don't know what to brew and need some ideas on how to put it to good use....

All ideas welcome!

Thanks

Great tasting hop, I tend to use most towards the end of the brew.

Thornbridge Kipling has lots of Nelson, maybe all nelson, lovely hop.
Pale or amber ale, bitter to whatever level you want and chuck in loads late and dry hop with nelson, great beer

+1 to this. I don't like any of the single hop brews I've tried with Nelson and I don't think it works too well as a bitterer, but it is pretty damn awesome as a late or dry hop.

Magnum is great bittering hop with most everything as it is very neutral.
My latest NS brew I used Pacific Gem to bitter and it really did work well also

I have used NS for bittering in most of my brews so far (just because it's what I had) and I have no complaints about it.

Sorry to hijack the post, but can I ask: would an all-Nelson beer work as a blond or does it need darkening?
Bought 100g of NS looking to make a passion-fruity blond ale but not quite sure if I've got the right hop.

I can't see why it wouldn't be great.

Works really well as an all late hop brew, don't add anything until the last 20 minutes of the boil, then add loads.....
