What to brew?

Post by oblivious » Fri Jun 01, 2007 2:04 pm

Look to brew one of these next week, just wondering which one the forum prefers

Oatmeal stout

Pale malt 4.53 Kg
Flaked oats 0.56 Kg
Crystal 0.5 Kg
Amber 0.34 Kg
Chocolate malt 0.25 Kg
Roasted barley 0.25 Kg

Hops

56g (2oz) of East Kent Goldings at 60min

Strong bitter

Pale malt 4.53 Kg
Crystal 0.25 Kg
Amber 0.25 Kg

Hops
28g of Northern brewer at 60 min
28g of East Kent Goldings at 15min
28g of East Kent Goldings at 5min
28g of East Kent Goldings at 1min
28g of First gold Goldings at 1min

Yeast I have a choice of S-04 or Nottingham

I may get lucky and get to do both!

Thanks

Personally I would brew the bitter but that is only because I have a porter and a stout on tap....

If I had nothing then I would brew the stout.

I'd second the stout with S-04. I'd save the WLP002 for the bitter - it'd suit it more IMO.

I suppose it would depend on what you already have. ie if you have a stout on tap at the moment with a bitter conditioning I would brew the stout as this will leave you with a stout within your rotation.

In all the stouts I've done I always found S-04 is ideal because of the slight residual sweetness it leaves

have a good one obliv
