Re: snecklifter
Snecklifter is a lovely pint and I had a crack at this a while a go with this recipe and it is very close IMO. The other Jennings recipes in BYOBRA have a healthy dose of wheat malt or torrefied wheat and also contain sugar. I used a lot of wheat which gives it that creamy head but I don't tend to use sugar very much and I wanted some body on this one, so I didn't use sugar as I thought it might thin it out. I also used some amber malt, which I haven't seen in other recipes, but I think it gives it the biscuity flavour that you get in snecklifter. The hops are challenger, fuggles and ekg on most online recipes and seem to be right to me.

Re: snecklifter
You may've already read this, but here's some additional info in an older, related thread. Nothing about yeast though.
http://jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... =5&t=24025
This news article describes Jenning's flood ordeal, after which they had to retrieve their proprietary yeast strain from the national yeast bank. http://www.beer-pages.com/stories/jennings-brewery.htm One small clue is that Jenning's original strain doesn't generate the Burton snatch that Marston's does, which I know is mainly related to water chemistry, but some yeasts produce more sulfur than others...I digress. I don't have any records of a Jennings culture available commercially, so you could try contacting BrewLab or culturing one up from a cask sample at the pub. Let me know if you capture one!
