Pennine Brewery Co , Streetparty IPA

Post by Fairbrew » Tue Aug 21, 2012 9:38 pm

Had a couple of pints of this in my local and thought it was a lovely pint. The notes say citrus, sweet spices and a hint of toffee , anyone any ideas on a recipe for this??

I'll take a stab. The brewery tell us a little, but not much: http://www.pennine-brewery.co.uk/Street-Party

"To celebrate the Year of the Queen's Jubilee and the London Olympics our brewers at Pennine created our Street Party IPA 4.8%. In taste, it has citrus fruits, sweet spices and a slight hint of toffee as we tried to make this IPA a drink that offers something for everyone."

I call for medium crystal malt and brown sugar (slight hint of toffee), Cascade and Goldings hops (citrus fruits), and Saaz hops (sweet spices). No specialized grains, bitterness on the lower end of IPA scale, emphasis on the aroma additions (offers something for everyone.)

PENNINE BREWING CO. STREET PARTY IPA
all-grain clone recipe
6 US Gallons = 5 Imperial Gallons = 22.7 Liters

85% = 8.5 lb = 3.85 kg, Two-row pale malt
10% = 1 lb = .45 kg, British Caramel/Crystal 50-60L
5% = ½ lb = .23 kg, Brown Sugar added to boil kettle

Bittering hops: 1 oz = 28 g, Cascade, 60 minutes
Flavor hops: 1 oz = 28 g, Cascade, 30 minutes
Aroma hops: 1 oz = 28 g, Goldings, 15 minutes
-and- 1 oz = 28 g, Saaz, Dry-hop in secondary fermentor

Mash at 67°C until converted

60 minute boil, perhaps longer for some kettle caramelization

STATS:
OG: 1.049
ABV: 4.8%
IBU: 43
COLOUR: 9°SRM/18°EBC

Pinch of calcium carbonate in mash, pinch of gypsum in boil kettle to make the hops pop. Irish moss near end of boil for clarity. Ferment with your favourite English ale yeast, but a cleaner/drier one will best highlight the hops.

Many thanks Seymour , for taking the time to put together the recipe. It looks like a good shout so I will have a go and see how it turns out . I emailed the brewery asking for any hints but have noy heard anything back. I have all the ingredients apart from Cascade as I have just used 200g on a version of Darkstar's Hophead. Thanks again =D>

In that case, you could substitute any American-y, grapefruit-y bittering hop, just decrease the dosing because most others are vastly higher AA%.

Keep us posted, because this looks like a tasty pint, if I say so myself.

So, Fairbrew, did you end up brewing it? If so, what do you think?

Sorry for the delay on this.
Yes I did brew this and while it wasn't a clone of the street party it was a damn fine drink.
I didn't add the brown sugar so that is probably why it didn't have the chewiness .
Ii turned out one of the nicest brews I have done. Thanks again Seymour

Sounds good. I'm glad it was tasty. I doubt the brown sugar would've added chewiness, though. More likely, it would've added some notes of caramel, toffee, fruity esters, and thin the body, actually. For fuller-body and chewier mouthfeel, you'd probably want to raise the mash temperature or use a less attenuative yeast strain.

Cheers!
