I'd like to get hold of a good, proven, chocolate stout recipe.
Using full mash grain brewing.
Ideally something like Youngs Chocolate Stout. Ideally you'll have brewed this one yourself, or at least have tasted another homebrewer's stout so you *know* it works.
Any suggestions please?

REQ: Chocolate Stout recipe
Here is one for Jamils Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, just leave out the hazelnut extract!
Or you could just added 250g of coco power to a standard stout recipe at 5 minutes left in the boil, here is mine.
Here is mine
Pale malt 4.53 Kg
Flaked Barley 0.50 Kg
Crystal 0.5 Kg
Amber 0.34 Kg
Chocolate malt 0.25 Kg
Roasted barley 0.25 Kg

Have you (or anyone else) actually done the 250g cocoa powder method? Did it work OK?
Otherwise, the Jamils Chocolate Hazlenut porter looks fairly good, though I'm tempted to beef up the roasted barley somewhat.
But then, that might smother the chocolate flavour from the chocolate malt at only 250g?

This is the stout i'm waiting to drink (i'm sampling half a pint a night) and it already has that chocolatey taste to it. Its a slightly sweet stout but its getting more bitter and smoother the longer its in the keg.

I've been thinking about doing a batch of the Chocolate Hazelnut porter for a while. If you want to follow the recipe verbetim the Hersheys can be bought here:

I don’t know what their coco is like but their chocolate is crap, unfortunately along with a lot of America chocolate. I would have though Cadburys coco would be good or better?mysterio wrote:I've been thinking about doing a batch of the Chocolate Hazelnut porter for a while.
