I am planning to brew my first stout on Sunday and wondered if anyone has any good recipes that work well with BIAB. I have a 30lt burco but don't know what quantities of grain to strike water to use in the mash (sorry am a bit of a newbie). I know there are calculators to use but just wondered if anyone could give me a starter for ten. Am looking to have a batch size of near 19lt but don't know if I can do this with my size of Breco? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The way I work out water quantities for BIAB is:
Final voulme I want = 19L
Add 10ml for each gram of hops (so 50g of hops needs an extra 500ml)
divide the above by 9 then multiply by ten to allow for evaporation
add 1ml for eack gram of grain used say 5kg so:
19l + 0.5L = 19.5l
(19.5/9) x 10 = 21.66l
21.66 + 5l = 26.66l total water
Works for me

Just finished the brew. Smelt excellent but probably not as dark as I had hoped.
Here is the recipe. Would really welcome some expert opinion. Will keep you updated on how it turns out.

How did this taste in the end? I'm in a similar position as you were, 2nd biab, first time using my burco & doing a stout.
Would you change the recipe?

Hi phets. It turned out really well. Took a bit longer to condition in the bottles. I think if I was going to change anything it would be to add more black malt and oats.
