challenger/EKG

Post by far9410 » Sat Mar 02, 2013 9:16 pm

Hi, only briefly used challenger, heard lots of good reports, thinking of a challenger EKG combo, very simple, pale malt only to about 1045, challenger to bitter and late, with lots of challenger and EKG at flame out, what do you think? :)
no palate, no patience.

Drinking - of course

Brewed using these two in a lot of different ways over the years. Never rated challenger as a great aroma hop but love it as a bittering hop. EK is a great duel purpose. One I've brewed several times in a 23lt brew is 30gms of both hops for 90mins and 30gms EK for the last 15mins.

EKG are magic when dry hopped I find. Around 60g will create an amazing flavour... go with 40g if you are unsure. It's pretty powerful!

Have you ever fermented with Windsor? Brilliant English ale/bitter yeast. Leaves a cracking mouthfeel. Mash at 60c though if you want to end up with a 1.011 - 1.012 beer.

Unless, like me, you toss a load of lactose in too and are in a big rush to "get amongst it." Not my best plan. But yes, typically, one would not be disappointed with Windsor. :)
