Post by barney » Tue Apr 16, 2013 6:52 pm

Hello There,

Can the guys who brewed those truly amazing hoppy beers for the bar please put their recipes on this thread. They were great beers, I would love to try and reproduce them.

Thanks

Pray for MOJO

Brewlength: 26 Litres
OG: 1035 - 3.5% abv
IBUs: 43
EBC: 14
Mash eff - 65% (deliberately shut off sparge early)

4620g Pale Malt
94g Extra Dark Crystal

10 min addition - 100g Amarillo, Centennial and Cascade equal mix
5 min addition - 100g Amarillo, Centennial and Cascade equal mix
0 min addition - 100g Amarillo, Centennial and Cascade equal mix

Yeast WLP 007

I think I may have said to some people that it had Citra in it. I was incorrect, that was my APA entry.

What have you used for bittering hops?
Best wishes

I would have thought the 10min and 5min additions of amarillo would give enough bittering there Dave.

Aye, I have a recipe with Citra that has only late hop additions.

Interesting, seems a bit short to me, though I've never used Amarillo.
Best wishes

There is 300g of high alpha hops, in only 26 litres and it's low gravity, it doesn't taste low. If anything it is quite bitter.

Stopping the sparge earlier is meant to give you a little more malt presence and avoids the potential of extracting tannins. Although as with everything take that with a pinch of salt. Also with 300g of hops, overall efficiency is always going to be lower.

Now then Naffolddog...pellets or flowers? If flowers what do you use to sink 156g of dry hops? I have tried marbles but without success.
