Off The Rails...help needed

Hi.
Stonehouse Brewery of Oswestry produce a delightful dark brown bitter called OFF THE RAILS. 4.8% ABV
Actually it is a very bright red held up to the light.
I am looking to produce soemthing similar.

It is not a brown ale, nor a mild, not a porter etc.

Plenty of malty flavour and body, but not too full and chocolatey. Plenty bitter and a good fresh hoppy finish.
All told a well balalnced beer hopsagainst malt.

Does anyone have a clone recipe or any ideas.?

My starting point calculated with beer engine would be ...
Volume 42lts
Pale malt 8000gm
Crystal 600gm
Chocolate 250gm

OG 1050
FG 1013
Alc 4.8%

Challenger 80gms 90mins
Styrian/Fuggles or Cascade to taste at the finish approx 50gms.

Colour 72 EBC

Will something like this do the business?

I'm sorta talkin' out my arse right now, since I haven't actually tasted that beer. But, based on what you and others on Ratebeer, etc, have described, here are some of my thoughts.

Your recipe certainly looks good and will likely get you in the ballpark:
90.4% Pale Malt
6.8% Crystal Malt
2.8% Chocolate Malt

However, I would think the Crystal should be at the dark end of the spectrum, and I'd add a small amount of black malt as well in order to ensure the desired red colour and faint roasty taste. Many people go out of their way to comment on "breadiness", so I'd recommend some torrified wheat as well. Maybe tweaked like this:

85% Pale
5% Torrified Wheat
6.8% (Dark?) Crystal Malt
2.8% Chocolate Malt
.4% Black Malt?

Your hops sound right, too, though I wouldn't overdo it with Cascades. You always know when they are there, and I could only find one person who described a grapefruit taste. The others seemed to emphasize English hop characteristics. Something like this, perhaps?

Challenger - for 90 min
Cascade - small quantity at 40 min remaining
Goldings/Fuggles/Stryian Goldings - at flame-out, steep until chilled.

Best of luck with your brew! I wish I knew if this recipe matched your Stonehouse target, but even if it doesn't it sure looks like a tasty "dark bitter", doesn't it?
