I know, I just love em, and they grow so so fast, I have, from left to right:
EKG, Redseslls Eastwell, Cobb, Early Bird, Fuggles, Santium, Centennial, Progress, Northern Brewer, Challenger, another Early Bird, Target and a drwaf called Prima Donna, then I have a little pot for cuttings of Northern Brewer and Prima Donna, which have come on, really well for next year........I cant stop growing them.......they just need some love, care and plenty of watering and then nature seems to take over

Haha..love it...yes you can use the hops dying can be a pain.
Your crop will be small first year and you might find, the cones are small but if you get some use them.

What time of year do you have to plant hops? I've got a supplier near me in Ipswich that sells the plants, and I fancy growing some Prima Donna (First Gold)

Best plant them in Dec/Jan, but if your planting them first year in pots or I think its their first year be careful of the frost, I bought and planted 10 plants in Jan/Feb this year but kept the pots in the garage until all the snow and frosts had gone then brought them outside, I think im right in saying the second year, they would have settled and will quite happly cope with a minor sudden frosts that appear the 2nd year and so on.Monkeybrew wrote:What time of year do you have to plant hops? Also in pots, 2nd and 3rd year, you may need to replace soil for the nutients and feed regularly. This year, as apposed to last year, I have bought from B&Q plant food and wow, what a difference that makes.......stronger bines and rasps.....i'm hoping for some good yield in the first year......now that's really unusual.....wont be much, but it'll be something I can use.
I love Hop growing now, and will continue to for years to come.......Happy growing, oh BTW, I have a Prima Donna and its lush, not obviously as tall as the others but still growing strong and full of runners too
