styrian stunner?
This was my first all grain beer i made a couple of years back i was disappointed with the result i didn,t find a stunning hop presence now i have improved my brewing method i am considering trying this again, has anyone else brewed this and if so were you impressed with the result?
I brewed it on Vossy's say so here and was very impressed with it, full on citrus flavours nice and light lovely served at around 12 degrees. I went for 45g Styrians at switch off and also dry hopped with 15g it took about 4 - 5 weeks for the massive hop flavour to mellow out but once it had
when I brew this again I wont change the recipe I used.

ok you've sweet talked me into a second attempt although the recipe i was looking at was from ollossons real ales here he states pale malt 4560grams styrian goldings (3.7%] 90mins and 14grams last 15mins .As i dont have challenger hops i am going to follow an all stryian approach although open to the idea of following you stated recipe but subsituting the challenger for stryians .my stryians a/a are 6% so can anyone recalculate the grams of stryians needed to replace the chall
enger?

Good decision slurp
Marcs recipe's are based on 75% efficiency using 4560g
The original recipe I posted on here was set for an efficiency of 80% so I used less grain,
If you're not sure what efficiency you're getting stick with the original 4560g pale malt figure
For the hops you can use this substitution formula
AA original hops x amount in grammes divided by your substitute hop AA
Ie, original recipe =
3.7AA x 71g / 6 = 43.78g challenger
EDIT
You don't need to change the aroma hops using the above formula as they contribute negligable bittering
I think it's good practice to do single varietal ales as they give you a great idea of what each individula hop can contribute.
I would say that it's well worth upping the aroma hops or dry hopping as per SD's advice.
I was a little disappointed with the aroma of my first batch and upped the aroma hops in subsequent brews

The bitterness hops look good to me as do the rest.nice one its looking like perfect conditions for brewing this tomorrow kids and missus away and terrential rain . my hop schedule is as follows for stryians 6% a/a 44grams at 90 mins 10grams last 15mins 15 grams steeped for 1 hr and 10 grams dry hopped does this seem reasonable?
I personally will be moving to more steeping/dry hops in future as I strongly believe that the last 15 min hops add extra bittering to my brews.
SD advised me to add generous steeping hops and he was very right
