Punk IPA Clone

Post by Bert » Sat Aug 31, 2013 9:43 pm

Hi guys,

I am trying to do this punk ipa clone: http://cellardweller.net/index.php/kune ... -all-grain

But I want to do it to 23l and I have a mix of leaf and pellet hops: Ahtanum leaf, Amarillo leaf and Columbus pellet

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the recipe? I have tried working it out but I don't think it's right!

Cheers

Bert

This is what I'm going to go with:

23l

6.9kg Marris Otter pale malt
Columbus hop pellets (90mins) 55g
Ahtanum leaf (0 mins) 34g
Amarillo leaf (dry hop) 34g
US-05

Mash grains 65C for 1 hour, and sparge to collect about 27 L of wort.
Boil for 90 minutes with Columbus hops at start and add Ahtanum at knock-out.
Cool and add yeast as a starter made 2-3 days earlier.
Oxygenate well and let ferment for 3-5 days.
Rack into secondary and add Amarillo hops in a sanitised muslin bag.
Rack after one or two weeks and bottle or keg as desired.

You'll need more hops that that. I'd go at least 100g at the very least for dry hopping.

I did one with 6 types of US and Australian hops, it had three additions too! Took me forever to wirte it all out but boy was it a bloody good beer!

Sounds good, I went for the 3 in the end. Was aiming for 23l but ended up with 18l and OG was 1064 so quite a bit higher than expected. Sure it will be nice though!
