Advice sought (again!!)
Advice sought (again!!)
Well, basically i managed to get my grubby little paws on 200g of green bullet, 20g admiral, and 200g challenger. I have 10kg pale malt, and was wondering if anyone could help out with the characteristics of the GB particularly (the descriptions tend to err on the poetic side IMO) bittering, aroma or dual purpose? Admiral i understand make an excellent late bittering addition, challenger bitter very nicely but GB are utterly new to me...............

Bittering hop. 12-13% AA.
The few Green Bullet hopped beers that I've tried have been very bitter [to my taste]. Each to his own.

Re: Advice sought (again!!)
NZ brewery Townshends did a beer called 'Last of the summer ale' that was wet-hopped with green bullet and nelson sauvin, it's one of the best drops I've ever tasted. I have no experience with green bullet myself, but going off Blackaddlers post I'm guessing the intense fruitiness of the nelson sauvin balanced out the bitterness of the green bullet addition.
Re: Advice sought (again!!)
Again thank you for the advice, heres what i have come up with:
Bite the Bullet pale ale
5kg pale malt: 90 min mash @ 68 degrees C
15g Green Bullet every 15 mins start of 90 min boil to flame out with last being 15min steep
US05 yeast
an attempt to show case the hops, i might dry hop with 6g EKG/litre but not sure yet
as always thoughts and critique appreciated.......

Somewhere between 69 and 75, hence the high mash temp. Not sure how the yeast will affect the beer but here goes, eh?!?!

Unless that is what you want I would back off the IBUs considerably. For a very pale beer using just pale malt I would usually aim for the mid 20s, maybe 30 max but then that suits my taste.
I would get maybe a third of the IBUs with a small 90 min addition and then add some at 10 or 15 mins and the rest at flameout..
Re: Advice sought (again!!)
Aye, i think that is likely the way forward, thank you all for the advice
Re: Advice sought (again!!)
Actually I had some crystal malt i needed to use up so grain bill was :-
pale malt 5kg
crystal malt 176g
69 degree centigrade mash for 90 mins
90 min boil
30g green bullet and 2g admiral at 90
30g green bullet at 45 minutes
30g green bullet and 3g admiral at flame out
if i have read previous posts correctly the flame out additions add aroma and flavour rather than bitterness?
