All Night IPA
All Night IPA
Ive been inspired by Founders All Day IPA. After reading the post from Seymour who mentions the Zythos blend, I thought I'd do a gibbiem blend, cos I can.
Ive used three hops I love, Apollo, Centenial and Citra. I got 100g of each mixed them up in a bowl as best I can. I know its probably not going to be 100% mixed, sue me.
Again, using Seymours recipe as a guide I've come up with this. I've used Columbus as Brew Mate doesnt have Apollo and they're both quite high AA. Also, I've had to list the three hops individually to create my blend effect.
Using US-05 and plan to ferment in primary for about a week and two weeks in secondary, dry hop for the last 7 days. Fermentation temp will be around 18-20c.
Calling it All Night IPA, firstly for the obvious reason and secondly because I hope to be up all night drinking it!!!
Feedback welcome, I'm also going to document this brew with pics etc for the craic. Watch this space

Re: All Night IPA
Great looking beer and a great choice of hops. I did something very similar with Centennial/ Citra and Simcoe (100g each - 15 min additions and less).
My single suggestion is that 90 IBU might be too much for a 4% beer finishing at 1011. For those numbers I personally would be looking at about 50 IBU.
I'd push more hops to later addition times to drop the IBU and get more flavour/ aroma.

Re: All Night IPA
Changed the hop additions. To make it clearer I've created a name for my blend of hops, was up all night thinking of something original and think I cracked it. So the additions below are a blend of Apollo, Centennial and Cites aka My Blend.killer wrote:Great looking beer and a great choice of hops. IBU is now at 44
20g at 60
50g at 10
60g at 5
70g steep
100g dry hop

Re: All Night IPA
Even better ! Apollo is nicer than Columbus. And 44 IBU is spot on. That's gonna be a great beer. Definitely like to have your impressions of the flavour of that blend of hops once it's ready to drink. The last couple of years I really only have eyes for hoppy reds/ blondes.
Incidentally you can edit the ingredients in brewmate so you can add in the Apollo and the % AA.
@ Floyd - He is definitely trolling all right.

The Fosters logo is a joke hahaha, just a bit of banter innit
Re: All Night IPA
I like the fosters avatar. I used to live in Sydney, about a mile from the old fosters brewery - which was coincidentally shut down - surely not because of the quality of the beer... though I actually never met an Aussie who drank fosters.

Re: All Night IPA
You can find it if you look hard enough.
The same with 4X - I met a whole bunch of people who drank it out of regional pride but who admittedly didn't like the taste of it !
A mate of mine got a job in Queensland - we went for a beer in a Queensland bar and we ordered "a local" beer - 4X. The barman warned us it tasted like piss but thanked us for drinking a local brewed beer. Gotta love the ozzies

Fair play for drinking local beer though, suppose it could mean job losses if not.
I'm wanna try and visit a brewary up this way, these guys - http://www.anarchybrewco.com they make such good beer and would love a mini cask of their citra star! Think I would support them A LOT if I could get a regular supply of that stuff.
