Cascade/Amarillo APA

Post by perryni » Mon May 26, 2014 10:51 am

I have got 100g each of cascade(7.4%) and amarillo (8.9%) and fancy using all 200g in an APA

What do you reckon the hop schedule should be (I would be using these for bittering as well)

My malt will be mostly Dingemans Pale Malt with some crystal around 5%-5.5%

Cheers

cascade and amarillo go together fantastic
i would use up to 100 in the boil and 100 dry hop

used crystal 90??

25 cascade at 90 mins
30 cascade 30 amerillo at 10 mins
30 cascade 30 amerrillo at zero flame out

rest dry hop

22 litre batch?

I'd love to give a recipe like this a go! I've only got a 15 litre pot so would want to do something much smaller. I already have a sealed pack of cascade so just need the grain yeast and amarillo hops. If I was to scale this down to 2 gallons what sort of boil size would I need? Never done an AG brew before so it's all new to me.

I know Nobby's made a lot of big hoppy APAs so he should know...

...just my penny's worth though, I'd up the IBUs slightly (at least 0.8 BU:GU) by dropping a few more in the boil (or just some more a little earlier)... but that's just a minor tweak for me.
