Vanilla Extract

Post by Belter » Sat Aug 16, 2014 2:20 pm

Just looking at Monin Vanilla syrup on their website and the ingredients include pure cane sugar.

I wondered if anyone had any experience with adding vanilla to a porter? I was going to add at bottling and use the sugar in the syrup to prime. I'm hoping the sugar to vanilla ration is correct in that I get enough vanilla flavour without incurring bottle bombs.

A couple of years ago I made a vanilla and cardoman stout by adapting a kit. I used about 15 tsp of Neilson Massey vanilla extract from madagascar for 20L. It came out pretty good but the vanilla was a bit too subtle. If I was to do it again I'd add it during secondary and a bit more.

Cool. Did you let it ferment out?
