Recipe tools
Hi,
I have been using beer engine for a long time, I have decided to move on, nothing more than I travel a lot and want to have access to all my old recipes and well I just want a central repository for the recipes I have just.
Also Beer engine seems a little "dated" sooooooooooooooo I wondered what does everyone use and would recommend?
Thanks
Hoptimus

Re: Recipe tools
Well as a complete noob i find Brew mate easy to use and very intuitive, if that's any help at all.
Re: Recipe tools
Started with BrewTarget, but have moved to Beersmith2, have it installed on the laptop and phone. Beersmith is worth the money in my opinion, once you get your head around it. Sometimes you have to create your own profiles to change the odd little setting, but every aspect of your process can be set correctly. There are some useful add ons, such as Brand specific grain profiles and fruit profiles, and the yeast starter/pitch rate calculator within the recipe designer is useful.

Had a go at Brew Mate and Beersmith 2. Choose Beersmith as there are so many features and it works well. As most people say, takes a while to get your head around it but after that you can just crack on. It is VERY accurate. Also you get a good discount if you buy the key from http://brewadelaide.com/. Works out about £10.
Re: Recipe tools
I have been using Beer Engine for a while and its great on the basis that its really simple - there's a danger of overcomplicating these things. However its getting increasingly difficult to keep it up to date with latest malts etc. Its difficult finding malt properties to input in the database. A question with Beer Smith 2 - is it possible to buy one and install on more than one device but maintain the same recipe data base to access from both devices? Also where are the recipes stored - in cloud database (and thus reliant on wifi) or are they stored on the devices memory? I really do not want to have to rely on having internet access every time I fire it up. Cheers for any pointers.
Re: Recipe tools
One license can be used on two computers, plus a little extra money for the mobile app, so 3 devices in total.
Recipes are stored in the device memory, and a total of 15 recipes can be uploaded to the cloud so they can be accessed by all devices at any time.

Re: Recipe tools
I plugged in all my hop AA values and prices into Beersmith last night. I'm loving it. It now gives me price per batch of beer brewed

Re: Recipe tools
I'm a big fan of Beersmith. Got it on my laptop and also my phone. I e-mailed Beersmith to ask why the Amazon app version was a different release number to the Play one and he replied within 2 minutes! Turns out the Android release isn't the same for both, he has to have different Play and Amazon versions due to the payment mechanisms they use. Bit of a pain if you ask me!
Great software in my experience. But then I haven't rely tried others so cannot compare.

Where is the best place to get beersmith for the PC. I have the android version on my phone but I'm not so fussed on paying for the PC version.
Does anyone use any different software that is compatible with beersmith?

If you read up the posts, there is a link to brewadelaide. I got mine from there a few years ago
Re: Recipe tools
Love Brewmate, but wish they would hurry up and bring out an app as it's about the only thing that still keeps my laptop in use.

Re: Recipe tools
Well at home I have two machines that have it installed. I have the database in Dropbox with both installations pointed at it, so whichever one is using it it updates from both. The beauty of BS is that it looks like the only game in town now, constantly updated and revised with a big community of users ensuring it continues to develop.Fido97 wrote:I have been using Beer Engine for a while and its great on the basis that its really simple - there's a danger of overcomplicating these things.
