Trip Hop APA

Post by laithclark » Thu Oct 29, 2015 10:25 pm

I recently brewed this APA which is roughly based on a recipe from Brew UK. It uses Cascade and Nelson Sauvin Hops plus Nelson Sauvin Hop Oil.

So if you like a well hopped APA then give this one a go, you can find the recipe here: http://bit.ly/1P8oml6

It is Tripple Hopped - hence the name 'Trip Hop' (Hops in the boil, dry hopped and hop oil)

Thanks for sharing. When did you add the oil and how did you calculate the amount? I guess these are answered in the link, though, so I'll check that out.
Enjoy!

Hi there

I added the oil to the secondary before I transferred it to the bottling bucket so it would be well mixed in, but I have previously added it the day before with no adverse affects. In terms of the amount it is stated on the recipe but I wrote a 'How to guide' which is under the hops section on here about adding Hop Aroma to beers and there are more general guidelines on the process of adding the oil on there.

I hope that helps

Looks good, what do you find the oil is like? Would you say its exactly like dry hopping or is there a difference?

Hi Simon

The oil is slightly different and I would say that difference is a more rounded flavour rather than what can be quite a harsh initial taste with dry hopping, depending upon the amount and how long its been in the bottle. But I really like it and especially the fact you can repeat the result with confidence too. Give it a go I think you'll be pleasantly surprised but combine it with dry hops to give a real impact.

Yes I add it to the secondary a day before bottling then test it at bottling to see if it needs anymore, any further addition I add to the bottling bucket and give it a stir round with the sugar to carbonate.

Hope that helps
