Double Diamond

The topic this evening at the pub was beer that we miss one old gent told us his was double diamond he has a 70 birthday coming up later in the year and we would love to give him some bottles of it as a present does any have a recipe of this beer from a age long gone #-o

This was a premium pale ale of high 40's gravity made by Ind Coope. There is a bit on Ron Pattinson's blog about it. It was an average pint but at the top of the gravity range to some of the other swill about. I suspect it would have been pale malt with a small % of crystal with invert sugar and/or some flaked maize, and Fuggles/Goldings/Challenger.

I remember the beer as there were a lot of Ind Coope pubs around here. I seem to remember it being a bit better than the other premium keg bitters sold by the big brewery's at the time. They also brewed it as a higher gravity bottled export beer that I think became Ind Coope draught Burton ale at the start of the real ale revival in the mid 70's. This was a lovely beer one of my all time favorites.

I also remember Ind Coope from my teenage years in SE London.

I think DD had it's origins as an IPA brewed by Allsopp's in the 1800's, and then came into the Ind Coope stable when they merged with Allsopp in 1934 I believe.

I could just drink a pint of that! Funny how sometimes you have the urge for the mass produced stuff. Same with bread, sometimes a fried egg butty in supermarket white sliced is the bizz.

A most enjoyable morning brewing beer my brother brought my grainfather back I purchased it some months ago but have never used it as he borrowed it and made some excellent beer so it was a learning curve for me with his help we started at 8 and finished midday we used the recipe as was suggested we hit our figures spot on as I post this the yeast has just started to work and it smells great
As this was my first time with the grainfather I was very very impressed sadly my brother took it home with him =D>

What? A 37 in classic blue? I'm an ex BR shunter, a driver let me take one of these tractors down Canute road , where the boat trains used to be collected in Southampton. Happy days. Oh....the 'double diamond'? Didn't notice it.

I made DEave Lines 1038 og version, in January 16, and it is very like it tasted in the 1960s.
