Brew Dog Recipes
Re: Brew Dog Recipes
My last two mashes were 30 minutes and I got 80% brewhouse efficiency.

Re: Brew Dog Recipes
That's mind blowing. I do a 90min mash, 60min boil as standard. Cutting an hour from the brew day would make it more a brew session.
Will definitely have to see if I can get that high efficiency on my system.

Re: Brew Dog Recipes
Ive decided to settle for now on 45 min mashes, 30 mins seems to make the FG unpredictable. Needs a bit longer than 30 to work on the fermentability of the wort, it seems.

They are mashing for 25 minutes to limit yeast attenuation.bryanferry wrote:I've bought the gear to make a batch of Alpha Dog and just realised the mash time on the recipe is 25mins. This must surely be a typo so I've taken it as a 75min mash. For a sanity check thought Id ask if anyone knew of a reason why they would just waft the malt over the liquor?
You have to remember it will also take them quite a long time to drain the mash tun and there will still be enzyme activity as they are doing this.
Re: Brew Dog Recipes
Thinking of doing punk ipa soon. What brand/variety of malts are you using for it? The recipe calls for "extra pale malt" and "caramalt".

Re: Brew Dog Recipes
I used thomas fawcett maris otter and whatever brand malt millers caramalt is ! I believe crisps do a extra pale maris otter
unfortunately i messed up when weighing out the maris otter and put 1kg less than i should have in so its a bit darker than it should be and sub 4%
havnt tasted it yet but smelt good when kegging

I've used Crisps MO twice in a Punk IPA clone.
Re: Brew Dog Recipes
Cheers Alex. How did the colour come out compared to the real thing?

Re: Brew Dog Recipes
Colour was pretty close. The only main difference was the clone was not as clear due to the sheer amount of hops that go into it. Fantastic clone though.
