For the kit version, again I'm relying on someone familiar with the currently available kits stepping up to help. :)
I've had a play with a couple of different pale Coopers kits, and the Canadian Blonde kit has come out the best, based on their supplied IBU & EBC figures.

I have also used Beer Engine to generate the recipe below -

JBK Summer Quaffer (Kit Recipe) - 23L

1 x 1.7kg Coopers Canadian Blonde Kit
1.4kg of Extra Light or Light DME or 1.65kg of Light LME
400g of Pale Crystal Malt 60EBC

20g of Cascade 8.6%AA (based on Maltmiller 2015) @ 15mins
20g of Goldings 5.7%AA @ 0mins

Beer Engine Says -

1.047 OG (I normally get an actual OG 1-2 points lower than BE projects)
34 IBU
16 EBC

Hope this helps :)

Cheers

Sounds good, MB! 8)

Once we have a date and all recipes are finalised I'll do a summary thread with full details of date and final definitive recipes.

Is Beer Engine still a work in progress? I see the practicalbrewing.co.uk website is no further on, lots of holding pages. Did he start something he couldn't finish? What's the craic? Potentially a very useful British brewing web resource.

He has too many other things on his plate at the moment. However, Beer Engine in its current state does work perfectly well for putting recipes together. There may be a few bugs and a bit of controversy over the hop calculations (only midges private parts differences, and which brew calculator doesn't have that) but it basically works.

Cheers Jim. I use Brewmate, but Beer Engine could be a good alternative if I ever need one. Would be good to see the practical brewing site getting going. Nudge nudge...

I'm in on this one, a neighbour is planning a summer bbq for the close in the field behind me so I thought this would be a good one to keg and let people help themselves.

I've worked out the grain bill to be:-

MO 2.925 85%
Light crystal 460g 10%
Torrified wheat 230g 5%
OG 1.045
EBC 14.9

As for hops, I've gone for:-

Challenger 7.0% AA 28g all of boil 22.1 IBU
Cascade 4.5% AA 39g @ 10mins 6.7 IBU
Golding 5.5% AA 30g @ 10mins 6.3 IBU
IBU's 35.1

Does this sound about right to you all?

Looks good to me. I punched mine into Beersmith yesterday. Only thing I need is Nottingham yeast. Never used it before and going with the Wilko Gervin Ale @ £1.75 a packet!!

The Home Brew shop do Gervin GV12 at £1.26 and Copper Kettle sell Nottingham at £2.
I heard, a long long time ago, that they are the same strain, but not seen any proof of this.

That's good, postage will push it up though. My mam & dad are in Wilko quite regularly so free delivery for me. I'll pay them back in beer. Up until now I've only used Safale 04 and 05, and their lager yeast. As I've got everything else for the brew along I'm sticking to what Jim suggests and giving the Nottingham a go. Roll on brew day!

Just ordered the hops for this brew from the Malt Miller. Out of all of the hops that I have got in stock in my freezer, I didn't have any that are required for this brewalong #-o

I've already got a packet of NBS Ale yeast that I may use in this brew, but don't really know much about it.

Cheers

JBK Summer Quaffer

Fermentable Colour Grams Ratio

Torrefied Wheat 4 EBC 200 grams 4.5%
Crystal Malt, Pale 60 EBC 400 grams 9.1%

Challenger Whole 7.6 % 90 mins 35 grams 46.7% (start of boil)
Cascade Whole 5.7 % 10 mins 20 grams 26.7% (15 mins from the end)
Golding Whole 5.7 % 0 mins 20 grams 26.7% (flame out)

Total Liquor: 32.7 Litres

Obviously, you will need to adjust the hops depending on the % AA in your particular batch of hops.

And ---breaking news---- Beer Engine appears to work perfectly in PlayOnLinux. :=P
Now that my hops have arrived and I know the actual AA%, I want to put my recipe together, but can Jim confirm if the Cascade are a 10 or 15min addition?

Cheers

Fairly sure Rob, the maltmiller, has stated it's not Nottingham.
