Father in laws allotments are having there yearly BBQ in July so I said I'd brew a beer for them !
I'd imagine a fairly standard brown ale recipe will go down well along the lines of speckled hen etc. But as it's not really my thing suggestions of a recipe appreciated

I've never had Speckled Hen, but his one came out real good.
Nottingham nut brown ale. Three gallons,
5 pounds British pale ale malt (78%)
8 ounces carastan malt (8%)
8 ounces victory malt (8%)
4 ounces carawheat (4%)
2 ounces chocolate wheat malt (2%)
1/4 ounce EKG @ 6% plus
2/3 ounce progress @ 6% for 45 minutes (25 IBUs)
irish moss plus
nutrient for 15 minutes
1/4 ounce EKG @ 6% for 10 minutes (3 IBUs)
1 pack Nottingham yeast.

If you are an extract brewer substitute enough extract to hit around 1.038 or so.
I'm just here for the beer.

A couple of the online retailers do recipe bags, where you pay the percentage of a kg and make the recipe up. No problem getting a few hundred grams of most malts instead of the usual kg, just the hops you usually have to get in full packs.
I'm not sure if I am allowed to mention names, but one i use is MaltMiller.
