Orkney Skull-Splitter

Post by sinkas » Mon Oct 01, 2007 4:54 am

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any insight to a possible AG clone for this beer. I was lucky enough to have a mate bring a case (after requesting just one bottle...LOL) of it over here to Oz last year, and still have a couple left to culture yeast from.

Any ideas (Orkney Rob?)?

Thanks for the replies,
just a couple of questions...

What are WVG hops?
What yeast did you use for the Raven Ale?
I thought there would be some smoked malt needed for the SkullSplitter.

Hello Daab i got the recipe straight from Marc Ollosons Real Ales. I never brew less than 110 litres anymore with 20kg of grain my mash tun is half full i could probable stretch to a 100 litres of barley wine strength brew if wanted. I would probably need to buy some binoculars to see a 23 litre mash lying at the bottom of my mash tun. I should really make a strong beer again haven't made one for a few years it means tying up a lot of cornies for a while. I just paid of my mortgage last week so maybe the wife will let me buy some more cornies without to much nagging

Hello i used US 56 yeast but don't stick to style & only use recipes as a guide & give them my own twist. You could use Wyeast Scottish Ale or White Labs Edinburgh Ale Yeast
