Perfect base for alcopops

Post by GabrielKnight » Thu Oct 18, 2007 7:03 pm

I want to make lots of alcopops of different flavours. Does anyone has a recipe for a strong, unflavoured base?

I was thinking of just using water, sugar & a 23% yeast, then mixing the high alcohol result with fruit juices and cordials after. Would this work?

Would the fermented sugar-water taste pure, like a half strength premium vodka. Would you use standard table sugar or are there better alternatives for a cleaner taste?

Thanks.

To start you ferment out a Triple Distilled yeast. In 23 litres of water add 7 kg of Dextrose (brewing sugar)to give your alcohol base at 18% ABV (called Wash). This is then cleared using Turbo-Clear. You will then have approximately 24 litres of wash.

Alternatively, you could produce a 23% ABV base from the Power-23 Turbo Yeast and after clearing use that to add to your flavourings to give you 23% ABV spirits and liqueurs. :D

i just used alcotec 48 with 8kg brewing sugar made around 22L wash after racking and clearing with turbo klar :D and i still have 19L of it left, havent really tried flavorings much but have tried them little bottled flavorings where you add sugar... eek
very temped to buy a smart/easy still and get rid of the last of the wash thats been shall we say maturing for the last 6+ months, would have some decent vodka for christmas then too.... hmm... :D
