Crouch Vale Brewers Gold revisited....

Post by Whorst » Tue Oct 23, 2007 3:18 am

I am going to attempt to brew something along the lines of this fabulous beer. I'm thinking about just using lager malt, no specialty malts. I've got some Brewers Gold coming shortly, so I should be good. As far as yeast goes, I'm thinking about White Labs WLP002 or 005. The flavour profile of this beer when I drank it a few months back, was nice round malt, not dry, maybe a tad sweet, then covered with a nice dose of hops. I'm assuming from what I've read previous, that there's a lot of finishing hops? I'll plan on trying to hit 30-35 IBU's, with much of it coming late in the boil. Thoughts on my choice of yeast and malt?

Cheers, Whorst

I had a go at a clone recently, for a first attempt it was definitely along the right lines, info here. Next time I'm going to do a 50/50 pale/lager malt mix, swap out a bit of the flavour addition to up the bitterness by a few IBUs. I've not got into liquid yeasts so far but I'd go for a clean yeast, I used Safale S-04 and thought it too 'tasty' for the beer. Let us know how you get on 8)
