Village Bitter

This is another Archers brew but, I don't have a definitive recipe. The Real Ale Almanac states Pale Malt 95%, Crystal 5% hopped with Progress and WGV, late hopped with Styrians. og1035 3.6%. For anyone whose not tried it, it's a very drinkable golden ale. A real thirst quencher. I wanted to try it so I can get a load done for the summer if it comes out any good.

Anyhow, I played around with some ingredients in Beersmith and came up with this;
23 litres
3800g Pale Malt
190g Crystal
90min mash/90min boil
20g Progress (8.3%) 90 mins
15 g WGV (7.2%) 90 mins
10 g Styrians (4.1%) 15 mins
whirlfloc 15mins
(undecided on the yeast - will have to see what the local HBS has in - either S-04, MPG or Gervin English Ale)

I thought it looked quite light on the hops but BS indicates 30 IBU's so I guess that should be about right for an ordinary bitter?

I plan to brew this on Wednesday (all things being equal) so feel free to mention if it looks like I've missed anything. this will be my first AG where I haven't followed a published recipe so I'm really looking forward to it.

Muntons Premium Gold. Not a big fan but, it's all I've got in at the moment. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up one of the others at the HBS tomorrow.

Will do DaaB, I'm going to be extra cautious with this one. It'll probably add an extra hour onto my brewday as I limp around the kitchen but hopefully I can get it all done before the missus gets home from work with no mishaps this time :D

Thinking about it overnight, I might also increase the grain a little bit just in case my efficiency is low. I know its a low gravity beer but, I wouldn't want to end up with dishwater. I'd rather finish too high and top up with water if necessary to lower the og so I might add another 10% for good measure.

All quiet in the Old Crow Brewery :cry: Awoke this morning with a thumping headache, blocked nose and sneezing for England.

Brewing isn't as much fun without the nose working properly so I've decided to leave this recipe until next week. Probably be Wednesday again as I shouldn't be working.
